This qualification provides learners with in-depth understanding of knowledge, skills and behaviours required when working directly with children in an Early Year Setting. Learners will attend taught session once a week covering themes of Health and well-being, Legislation, frameworks, and professional practice. Play, development and learning for school readiness. Learners will complete a mandatory assessment task for a Longitudinal study to observe, assess and plan for childrens needs. Placements are required for achievement of this qualification once a week and learners will be supported in accessing an Early Years Setting. During placement, learners will be support by an assessor/mentor within the real work environment to complete professional development records.

Ideally learners will hold Level 2 equivalent Maths and English qualifications

There are 23 mandatory units in this qualification, and it will be internally assessed using a range of methods, which will include practical observation, professional discussion, written assignments, or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet. The assessor will support learner in the workplace with knowledge, skills, and behaviours

Learners can progress Childrens Development and Learning Foundation Degree. Upon achievement of this qualification, it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary, or private sectors such as practitioner in day nurseries, practitioner in nursery schools practitioner in reception classes in primary schools, pre-school worker and home-based child carer.
